The victims of an armed robbery spree last year have spoken about the terrifying experience for the first time.

The accounts from Bunbury grandmothers Betty Dhu, 81, and Roberta Chambers, 82, and Australind resident Luca Warner, 24, leads this week’s South Western Times.

Two men, one armed with a loaded, sawn-off rifle and the other who acted as a getaway driver, terrorised the women in a robbery spree on May 17, 2014.

They have spoken publicly to give victims of crime a voice that is often forgotten.

Also in this week’s Times, Bunbury Catholic Bishop Gerard Holohan weighs into the gay marriage debate.

In a wide-ranging interview, Bishop Holohan has slammed the “slogans” which he says has not resulted in a reasoned and informed debate.

Among the other stories in the Times:

• The Rose Hotel has changed owners which ends the Drinkwater family’s a 46-year association with the well-known pub.

• A Bunbury school has raised concern about student safety from a proposed redevelopment of a shopping centre.

• Bunbury dancer Dianne Buswell discusses her disappointing elimination from Dancing with the Stars.
