In the midst of his biggest ever tour, NSW musician Jack Carty will be stopping by the Prince of Wales Hotel next Friday night.

Speaking to the South Western Times straight after returning from New Zealand, he said his second trip across the Tasman as a performer had been one of the tour’s early highlights.

“It was an amazing trip — five times better than I thought it would be,” he said.

“It is a beautiful place and it was great to get over there.”

Carty, who describes his music as “lyrical indie folk, although the new record is more on the alternative side”, has bittersweet memories of his previous trip to Bunbury.

His only other visit to the Prince was the final show of his 2012 tour with Josh Pyke.

“My strongest memory is that it was a boisterous crowd,” he said.

“I got on stage and Josh said ‘welcome to the thunderdome’.

“Being the last show of the tour, it was bittersweet.”

Carty has also played in Margaret River, Nannup and Dunsborough and so he knows enough to like our “beautiful part of the world.”

Regional centres have been a focus of his comprehensive tour and he will play in his home town of Bellingen in NSW two weeks after the Bunbury show.

“I’m trying to tour this album as widely as I can,” he said.

“This is what I want to do for the rest of my life so I’m trying to build my tours up.”

Carty is an accomplished performer and is touring his third album Esk, which has been played on Double J and received critical acclaim.

“It’s had a really positive reaction so I’m super stoked,” he said.
