Capel-raised jockey Kate Witten is lucky to be standing after suffering a massive fall in a race in Kalgoorlie at the weekend.

Witten fell on the straight during the $15,000 2016 Boulder Cup Naming Right Raffle Maiden (1400m) on Sunday at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racecourse, with both her and Joseph Azzopardi going down.

Azzopardi was not seriously hurt when he fell from Ice Maker on the straight, with Witten falling from five-year-old bay mare Expresso Rocker as well in the aftermath.

Witten was taken to hospital with a concussion and complaints of a sore neck, but flew back to Perth later that night.

The 20-year-old said she was still sore on Monday and was having a check up.

Witten was set to ride Adam Durrant’s Thunderluv'n, but was scratched because of the fall.
