Recent country music award winner Jonny Taylor will be performing at the Old Coast Road Brewery in Myalup on July 31.

Taylor spoke about his career and performing in the South West.

‘‘I haven’t played there in ages and I’m looking forward to performing,’’ he said.

Taylor is a South West musician who has a passion for telling stories through his lyrics and earlier this year released his full length album Insights.

Taylor said he loved being a musician full-time and needed to focus on his music career after winning the 2011 WA Country Music Best Male Artist award.

‘‘It feels so good to performing all the time,’’ Taylor said.

‘‘Even though it was great to win the award, competing in competitions don’t excite me as much as performing.’’

This year Taylor has been solely focusing on his music career and said the time he had spent promoting his career had paid off.

‘‘I love telling a story through a song and giving the opportunity for the audience to connect,’’he said.

‘‘One thing that has kept me going is progress.

‘‘It’s great to see the hard workpaying off.’’

The song Bulletproof from his album was chosen to be featured on the 2011 WAMi compilation CD which showcases songs from WA artists.

The songs were selected by the West Australian Music Industry board.

Bulletproof is a rocksong that reflects on the feeling of freedom and invincibility when riding a motorbike.

Taylor described all of his work as autobiographical but said he had noticed a shift in the new material he was currently working on.

‘‘Recently I have noticed that when I see my wife’s family who are farmers they live by the weather,’’ he said.

‘‘I feel I am moved by their personal journey rather than my own.’’

Taylor said he was taking up as many opportunities performing locally as he prepared to hit the road in January for an interstate tour.

‘‘I enjoy creating my own path,’’ he said.

‘‘My music is alternative country and it is a bit different to country music.’’
