South West Football League players will face some familiar faces this Sunday when they take on the Peel Football League in their first game of this year’s Landmark Championships at Hands Oval on Sunday.

The visitors have named 2010 and 2014 Hayward Medallist Jesse Gribble as well as two-time Eaton Boomers premiership midfielder and 2013 Pike Medallist Josh Bowe.

Former Peel Thunder captain Brendon Jones and three-time leading goalkicker Brad Holmes have also been named for Peel, while former South Fremantle forward Paul Mugambwa has been included in the line-up.

Both sides named 30-man squads on Monday, which will be cut to 25 by game day.

SWFL coach Jamie Nani said the home side had a slight advantage with their knowledge of a few players.

Peel have named two ruckmen in their squad in former Bunbury player Jacob Williams and former Fremantle Docker, Swan Districts and Perth ruckman Joel Houghton.

Nani said Brady London and Braddon Kazakoff might have to pinch hit in the ruck and help sole ruckman Brendon Page when he needed a rest.

The second-year coach said his side had an advantage playing across four-quarters and hosting the game at Hands Oval.

“I am sure Peel will be reasonable across four quarters, but it works in our advantage,” he said.

“We have some reasonably big bodies and quality guys on the outside who play Hands Oval well.”

Peel coach Clayton Falkingham hopes to use four options through the ruck on Sunday, with Williams, Houghton, Mugambwa and former SWFL representative Tom Harper in the mix.

Falkingham said Bowe and Gribble strengthened his side.

“They are outstanding footballers,” he said. “They will get a bit of ribbing I guess, but if they are going to get it, it means they are getting a bit of the ball.”

Bouncedown is at 2.20pm.
