An overwhelming interest in Boyanup's new lifestyle village has inspired an exclusive, invitation-only milestone event.

The Meadowbrooke Lifestyle Estate will open the doors to its two display homes and its grounds to more than 160 people who have registered an interest in becoming Boyanup's newest lifestyle residents.

The "soft" opening on Sunday will be the culmination of more than five years of planning.

Meadowbrooke Lifestyle Estate chairman Kevin McDonald said the estate - expected to include 181 homes - would increase Boyanup's population by nearly 40 per cent.

The boost for Boyanup has been welcomed by the town's business operators and the Capel Shire Council, which in September gave in-principle support for the development.

Work is under way at the estate to transform the former farming plantation and popular wedding venue into the lifestyle retirement village for over-55s.

That includes three self-contained accommodation units, which will be revamped for use by residents who have family visiting and a function room being turned into a family centre.

Mr McDonald said an estate shareholders meeting on Monday approved plans to start development of 95 sites as part of stage one.

People who have registered an interest in the estate will have first choice of sites and can opt for a river or park frontage, according to Mr McDonald.

Capel shire president Murray Scott said the lifestyle estate was the best thing to ever happen to Boyanup.
