Mad Hatter tea parties for cancer fundraisers

SOUTH WESTERN TIMESSouth Western Times

A Bunbury garden will be transformed into a wonderland for a childhood cancer fundraiser.

Inspired by a personal connection, the Mad Hatter-themed tea parties will raise money for The Telethon Adventurers.

Annette Morgan will host Saturday's two tea parties at her Beach Road home.

She said food would be prepared by the Country Women's Association, champagne served on arrival and there would be unlimited cups of tea.

The event came about by chance in conjunction with a plan by Mrs Morgan's daughter, Perth-based police officer Tracy Howell and her colleague Melissa Ashby, to climb the world's highest free-standing mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, to raise money for The Telethon Adventurers.

Mrs Morgan was sitting outside her Bunbury home with her daughter when she decided it was an ideal venue for a fundraiser.

"It was an opportunity to help my daughter and we have personal links to cancer in our family," she said.

"We've had garden parties in the past and decided to have this."

The tea parties will be held at 90 Beach Road from 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm - with 100 per cent of the $30 ticket price to go to the cause.

A maximum of 40 people can attend and, while tickets will be available on the door, Mrs Morgan encouraged people to book early.

"People should come down because everyone in some way has been affected by cancer and this money is going directly to research," she said.

Tickets are at Jolt Footwear or phone Mrs Morgan on 9791 4118.
