A Dalyellup man who claims he is innocent and just needs to prove that he did not sexually assault an intellectually disabled woman in 1993 has fronted court.

Geoffrey Leigh Barsby, 54, is facing charges over allegations he attacked the 44-year-old woman in her Albany home on November 19, 1993.

Mr Barsby appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court this morning where he declined to enter a plea to the charges of deprivation of liberty and sexually penetrating an incapable person.

The matters were remanded for a disclosure committal hearing on November 24 and Mr Barsby’s bail of $5000 with protective conditions was extended.

Outside of court Mr Barsby responded to questions, saying he was innocent and just needed to prove it.

State Crime Operations Squad detectives charged Mr Barsby following a review into the case.
