Maroon hit Red for six in over-time

Tornadoes Red almost caused an early season upset on Friday night, taking championship favourites Bulls Maroon into over-time during their Dale Alcock Homes Bunbury Basketball Association A-Grade clash at the South West Sports Centre.

Two Wade Hitchcock free throws gave Maroon a three-point lead late in the game, but with seconds remaining, young guard Jordan Sears nailed a three-pointer to send the game into over-time, where the Bulls held strong to win 84-75.

Hitchcock scored six of Maroon’s 11 points in over-time on his way to a game-high 20 points.

Trent Worthington (19 points) and Paddy Phillips (18 points) provided support for the point guard, while Jordan Barlow (17 points) and Jay Walton (12 points) were the best for Tornadoes Red.

Bulls Gold won their match against Tornadoes Black 70-59 in a high quality game, with Tre Nichols nailing five three-pointers on his way to 25 points for the winning side.

Brynn Francis added 17 points for Gold, while Black’s stand-out players were Tim Collins (17 points) and Carey Watkins (15 points).

Busselton won their first game of the season with an impressive 93-66 victory over defending champions Aces Navy.

Matt Mansfield hit seven three-pointers to score a game high 27 points for Busselton, with teammates Dylan Ness (17 points) and Cameron Bell (16 points) were also solid contributors.

Daniel Woods (19 points) and Luke Deighton (18 points) were Navy’s best.

Aces White defeated Tornadoes Grey 90-73 with Phil Pense scoring 28 points for the winners.

Matt Germs added 21 for Navy, while James Wallam scored 24 points for Grey.

In the women’s competition, Aces White defeated Busselton 79-61 with Tiahna Sears scoring 38 points for White.

Shannon Verhagan added 12 points for the winners, while Ella Bassett (18 points), Misty Wallace (17 points) and Clair Colgate (16 points) all performed well for the improving Busselton side.

Tornadoes defeated Aces Navy 66-54 with Tayah Burrows scoring 21 points for the winners and Raya Thompson scoring 16 points for Navy.
