McGlashan gets back in the ring
Boxing in the South West just got a lot more dangerous with the return of one of Bunbury’s best talents.
“Danger” Dan McGlashan has announced he will return to the ring, with his first fight set for Stokesy’s Hit Pit Promotions Fight Night.
It has been 18 months since McGlashan last fought, with his victory over Steven Kennedy in March last year his fifth victory from his five professional fights.
But an injury to his right shoulder slowed the undefeated 22-year-old’s career, with the Denning Boxing Gym product retiring.
But for the past six months McGlashan has been getting his body right for another bout and hopes next month’s fight is the start to the rest of his career.
McGlashan said he thought his career was over when he injured his shoulder.
“I am just hoping to get back into it and see where we go from there,” he said.
McGlashan said he was “hoping” his shoulder would hold up in his first six-round fight.
“We will just see how it goes,” he said.
Coach Pete Stokes said McGlashan’s opponent was yet to be announced, but he was confident in the boxer’s ability to win regardless.
“There will be a bit of ring rust with him, but he will blow that off,” he said.
“We are just getting him comfortable back in the ring.”
McGlashan said despite not having an opponent, he felt he had the fight “in the bag”.
Stokes said he believed McGlashan could once again be on track for an Australian title.
“If he sticks with it he could be back in contention,” he said.
McGlashan said he had enjoyed being back in training camp.
“It has been hard but good,” he said.
“I’ve really been enjoying it.”
Stokesy’s Hit Pit Promotions Fight Night will take place on Saturday, October 15, at the Eaton Recreation Centre.
Confirmed for the card is Nathaniel May, Perth’s WBA Oceania lightweight champion Brandon Ogilvie and Bunbury amateur boxers Logan Kuka and Tyler Donnelly.
