William Barrett and Sons raised more than $28,500 to go towards cancer research at this year’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event.

Event organiser Taryn Barrett said the morning tea was a record breaker in terms of people served.

“During the day we served around 1500 people for morning tea or a sausage sizzle,” she said.

“On top of that there were 700 people served through deliveries to work places so it was a very big year.

“We think in terms of the number of people served, this was the biggest morning tea we have ever had.”

Mrs Barrett said the amount of money raised was $5000 more than last year.

“So in total we have raised more than $312,000 since we first started hosting the event,” she said.

“So we are really proud of that and it shows that people are really willing to help out.

“There is still more money to come in so we will have raised more than the $28,500 we have counted so far.”

Mrs Barrett most of the money was raised from the morning tea and sausage sizzle.

“The raffles were really well supported and people found those really popular,” she said.

“We raised a little bit of money with the silent auction but the majority was the morning tea.

“We were really lucky that the weather was so good because there was a worry that it may have rained on the day.

“It is really great that it is still going strong after 25 years and it seems to be going from strength to strength.”
