Moss gathers momentum
He’s one of Australia’s most respected and well-known musicians, but when Ian Moss comes to the South West next month crowds will see something a little different to the legendary performer everyone knows and loves.
Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of hisSix Strings album, the five times ARIA winner is going back to basics for his solo acoustic tour, focusing on his love of all things blues, soul, and jazz.
“It took 10 years, but it finally went gold,” Moss laughed.
Recorded live in a room above Sydney’s Sandringham Hotel in August 2005, the album was a challenge Moss relished.
“I never stop trying to learn, it’s all different colours you can add to the palette,” Moss said.
“The most important thing is to deliver the story.
“When you have a band it puts a wall of sound between your fans and the meaning of the music, but with just your voice the story is really out there for people to hear.”
Bunbury’s leg of the tour won’t be the first time the boy from Alice Springs has visited the region, with many stops over the years since his time with Cold Chisel.
“I love the South West, there’s a big audience in regional Australia who are really hungry for top quality entertainment,” Moss said.
“Why should regional people miss out, or be made to trek all the way to the city?”
Moss will bring a variety of songs with him on the tour, from old Cold Chisel hits right through to new twists on rock classics.
“I’m looking forward to playingTelephone Booth, Out of the Fire , and putting my own unique spin on Chisel classics likeBow River, Saturday Night, Flame Trees , andMy Baby ,” Moss said.
“Then there’s Creedence Clearwater Revival’sGreen River , and Jimi Hendrix’sPurple Haze .
“They were some of the first songs I played with my band in Alice Springs, so they are very dear to me.”
After a visit to “the music capital of the world” Nashville, the singer-songwriter even crafted a few new songs to debut.
“Nashville is just so inspiring; it’s chock-a-block full of songwriters, they just eat, sleep, and breathe music there,” he said.
The Six Strings Classics Tour will arrive at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Sunday June 5. For more information or to book tickets contact BREC on 1300 661 272.
