Mums aim to give back to children’s hospital

South Western Times

Two Bunbury mothers have made it their mission to raise funds to improve research at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Both Jess Bevan and Jess Mason have a personal attachment to PMH as their children were born with birth defects.

Mrs Bevan’s son, Oscar, was born with gastroschisis, a birth defect where his intestines were on the outside of his body.

This defect is treatable and Mrs Bevan said she would be forever grateful to the doctors and nurses at PMH.

‘‘Some infants born with gastroschisis can die, PMH kept my baby alive,’’ she said.

‘‘Now I want to support them for what they did for me and my family.’’

Mrs Mason’s daughter, Ella, was born with spina bifida, a birth defect that affects the development of the spinal cord.

Both mothers, last week, sold products for thePMHWear a Bear Day and are continuing to sell tickets for a charity auction night they are organising.

The PMH Bid for Kids Charity Auction, which will be held at the South West Italian Club on June 25, is a night where guests will be treated to a three-course meal and be able to bid for donated products.

Tickets to the auction are $70 and all of the proceeds will go directly to PMH.
