The Milligan Community Learning and Resource Centre has received a creative facelift by one of the groups making use of its services.

Members of the Nixi Teen and Young Mums Group, along with local artist Andrew Frazer, have painted a “nature inspired” masterpiece on one of the centre’s walls.

The plain brick wall, that runs down the length of the building, was transformed over a six week period and now sports bright splashes of blue in a geometric pattern.

Two skills development workshops were run by artist Andrew Frazer before the painting begun, then the group spent four sessions completing the design.

Mr Frazer said a desire to tie the theme in with the yet to be developed landscaping called for the design to be interactive, friendly and approachable.

“It’s a lot of commitment to do a massive wall like this but everyone stuck it out and was really stoked with the outcome,” Mr Frazer said.

Program coordinator Sash Milne said the project presented a great opportunity for the mums to be part of something that could be appreciated by the whole community.

“I think its really important for people to have an opportunity to create art in their local community and to be part of something that’s bigger than the group,” Ms Milne said.

“A huge array of different mums and their kids got to be involved in different stages of the process which was really exciting.”
