Netball: Jets power to hot win

The Griffin Souwest Jets made a winning start to their 2011 State Netball League season, cruising to a 10-goal victory over Rangers in Perth last night.

Jets Zoe Alberti and Bianca Donovan starred amid warm conditions at Arena Joondalup as the South West club returned to the top flight SNL and turned in a dominant performance to run out winners 49-39.

Wing defence Kate Sheehan came on in the second quarter to have an impact against a Rangers side who have not won a game in their three years in the competition.

Jets coach Michelle Willsher said that she was pleased with the start that her team had made to the season.

``We gave them (Rangers) a good nudge, it was very, very warm on the court, and that had an effect on all teams,’’ she said.

``We handled the heat better because we have an extremely high level of fitness.

``The result is promising but we want to be competitive against top four sides as well.’’
