Netballers ready for big stage

South Western Times

It is not every day you have the honour of representing your State on the national stage, so the upcoming school holidays are bound to be extra memorable for Cassady Anderson and Kate Duncan.

Between April 11 and 16, the talented South West Academy of Sport netballers will play for WA at national age championships. Anderson will compete in the 17/U championship, while Duncan will be part of the WA side contesting the 19/U tournament.

Both events will be run simultaneously in the State for the first time since 2008 and SWAS netball head coach Dale Nielsen said the local talents could expect a high level of competition.

"They will be up against the best players in Australia in their group," she said.

"It will be a tough week, with two games a day.

"The girls will learn much about the game, their team and themselves."

Nielsen said Anderson and Duncan were talented players who had already achieved by being selected to wear the black and gold colours of WA.

"Netball is the highest female participation sport in Australia, so to be named in the top 12 in their age group is a massive achievement," she said.

"Kate is an accurate shooter who is athletic, with speed, agility and strength.

"Cassady has great vision and timing on the court, with good decision making and is an outstanding team member."
