New Bunbury councillors ready for future
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan will reveal the council's agenda for the second half of his term next week.
The newly formed council attended an informal get together last night to discuss its priorities for the next two years.
At the start of next Tuesday's meeting, Mr Brennan will use his regular time for announcements to discuss the council's new agenda from now until the 2017 election.
These will be the last two years of Mr Brennan's first term as mayor but he is yet to decide if he will recontest the position.
He said he would make his future clear six months before the next election, after discussions with his wife Robyn.
Mr Brennan reflected on his time as mayor and said he was very proud of the work of the council.
"I am absolutely enjoying my role," he said.
"I am excited and I love my job. It's not really a job, it's an appointment."
He said it was up to the public to judge his performance as mayor, though he believed the council should receive at least a "B" grade.
A new deputy mayor will be elected at next week's meeting.
New faces Monique Warnock and Joel McGuinness were among six people, including sitting councillors Brendan Kelly, Betty McCleary, Murray Cook and Sam Morris, who were sworn in for four-year terms at Tuesday night's briefing session
The first briefing session of the new council ran for about 20 minutes.
There was little discussion over the agenda for next week's meeting and the agenda mostly focussed on appointments for committees.
After the meeting, family and friends of the newly-elected councillors enjoyed food and drinks in the council function area.
