New emergency services hub for Bunbury
The State Government has set aside $8 million for a new emergency services hub in Bunbury after redirecting the funding for a new Australind career and fire rescue station to the project.
The hub, to be located on the corner of Bussell Highway and Parade Road and opposite the Bunbury Turf Club, is expected to be built by 2014 and has come with the promise of more career fire fighters for the South West.
The new emergency services hub will be progressed in partnership with the City of Bunbury and may also become home to a new State Emergency Services facility.
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli said the region’s fire fighters did an exceptional job in dangerous circumstances but the current career fire station in Bunbury was small and outdated, having been built in the 1960s.
“This new facility will allow for an integrated approach to fire and emergency services, and in the event of a major disaster, will provide for extremely efficient coordination between different services,’” Mr Castrilli said.
The current fire station in Forrest Avenue will be decommissioned and the land sold with the funds returned to FESA.
