With the new NBL1 West season starting this weekend, the Eaton Recreation Centre is set to feature new state-of-the-art scoring facilities.

Installation of new shot clocks and scoreboards was recently completed at the Eaton Recreation Centre, fulfilling a $35,000 State election commitment to upgrades at the sporting venue.

It comes just in time for the start of the 2022 NBL1 West season, which will see the South West Slammers host the Geraldton Buccaneers at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Saturday.

The upgraded scoreboards, shot clocks and player statistic panels will allow the Eaton Recreation Centre to meet FIBA (International Basketball Federation) standards and will assist in attracting high profile events such as Perth Wildcats pre-season fixtures to the centre.

The Eaton Basketball Association will also benefit during their regular season, for use in their junior and senior competitions throughout the year.

Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns said she was “pleased to be delivering on this commitment to the Eaton Recreation Centre”.

“The shot clocks and scoreboards will bring the ERC facilities to a national standard, and I’m so pleased that they have been installed and are ready for game day,” she said.

“Being a parent, and an avid basketball spectator, I look forward to watching local teams and the South-West Slammers play this season.”

Shire of Dardanup president Mick Bennett said the council was very grateful to the State Government for their assistance in fast-tracking the “much-needed and appreciated upgrade” of the recreation centre’s facilities.

“Basketball plays a big part in bringing members of the local community together and the new shot clocks and scoreboards will add a great deal to the experience of both players and spectators,” he said.
