Bunbury’s new fire station will allow firefighters to respond better to emergencies and help keep the community safe, according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

Following years of planning, the Bunbury Fire Station at Bussell Highway is well under way and due to be completed by early next year.

Originally planned in 2012 to house career and volunteer officers, the $8.2 million building will cater for only career DFES firefighters.

Despite delays, DFES Bunbury district officer Peter Stewart said the project was on track to be completed on time under a revised schedule.

“The original construction schedule was revised to accommodate an improved design, offering better value for money for the community,” Mr Stewart said.

The station will include a training room, office, gym, dormitories and a tower for medium and high-rise confined space training.

It will accommodate 12 station officers and 32 firefighters.

Mr Stewart said the station would provide extra reassurance to the community and help keep people safe.

“The new station means more capacity to respond to emergencies from road incidents to house fires and large bushfires,” he said.

“Firefighters will benefit from specialised training facilities, as well as enhanced hygeine and cleaning areas.”
