Next level fitness hits SW
A state-of-the-art fitness rehabilitation centre has been built at Progress Physiotherapy in Bunbury.
The centre features a Queenax training machine which is the only one of its kind in Western Australia.
Practice manager Dawn Testrow said up to 17 people can use the machine at one time, with the intention for it to be used as part of a patient's rehabilitation training program.
The machine is worth $17,000 and the entire gym fit out cost upwards of $350,000, she said.
The practice has come a long way since Ms Testrow and her daughter Jodie started out in a small space at Marlston Hill in December 1998.
Today there are 10 practicing physiotherapists and they have called their practice at Spencer Street home for the past five years.
"The idea to build a rehabilitation gym has been going on for around two years and we started the process mid last year," she said.
"We wanted a space where our clients could be monitored by the physiotherapists and be shown through equipment to use for their rehabilitation program."
Physiotherapist Alice Rotheram said they understood the comprehensive injury to recovery process and the gym would allow them to check-in regularly with their patients and monitor their progress.
There is a sprint track which is perfect for runners who want to ease back into their training and an agility floor to test strength and ability.
"The agility floor has a gold standard testing for ACL to return to sport after an operation," she said.
"We will break down what is stopping you from training and the centre can be the place to put a program together to achieve your fitness goals.
"All the physiotherapists here have their own sporting interest, so we understand just about all sports and will try to help out wherever we can."
The gym is also open to the public on a membership basis and is open 24 hours a day seven days a week.
