Nichols wins back-to-back MVP awards for Slammers
Printsync South West Slammers scoring machine Tre Nichols has won his second straight Most Valuable Player award at the club, after being announced the winner on Friday night.
Nichols averaged more than 30 points a game in 2016 and was the hot favourite heading into the presentation night at the Rose Hotel.
Despite the Slammers missing the play-offs, Nichols was a star, averaging 31.1 points per game, as well as almost six rebounds and 5.5 assists.
Nichols finished the 2016 season with a season-high 60 points against the Goldfields Giants, despite playing with a broken nose.
Former US College basketballer Courtney Bayliss was awarded the women’s MVP award after a stellar first season back in the Slammers’ colours.
The 23-year-old averaged more than 19 points a game and almost 10 rebounds in a side which won just two games for the season.
Teammate Dena English was runner-up MVP for the women’s side, having averaged almost 13 points a game.
Slammers co-captain Clive Weeden was named the Players’ Player for the men’s side, while stalwart Brittany Gliddon was given the honour in the women’s team.
Young Slammers star Travis Durnin received the Youth Player of the Year award after starring in his first season with the Slammers.
Durnin averaged more than five points and almost four rebounds a game for the South West side and had an outstanding game against the Stirling Senators on June 5, scoring a season-high 17 points.
Slammers stalwarts Trent Worthington and Wade Hitchcock were both awarded life memberships at the club after both playing their 200th games in 2016.
Administrator Gary Bock was named Club Person of the Year.
