No fake facades for Fresh Face Friday

The City of Bunbury Youth Advisory Council is turning heads with its Fresh Face Friday campaign encouraging women to go make-up free on August 30.

The initiative, adopted from this year’s Heywire Regional Youth Summit, runs in the lead up to Body Image Awareness Week and aims to promote self-esteem.

Youth Advisory Council Mayor Carlee Brien said most young girls struggled with body image issues.

“I want all women to go make-up free for Fresh Face Friday,” she said.

“We need to start judging people on who they are rather than what they look like.”

Women are asked to upload a make-up-free photograph to Instagram, Twitter or Faceboook using the ‘fffbunbury’ hashtag or to simply go without make-up on the day.

City of Bunbury community development officer Rachel O’Donoghue has pledged to not wear make-up in the lead up to the event and hopes others do the same.

“It is a little bit daunting and confronting going fresh-faced because all your flaws and insecurities are on display but it’s a step forward every time a woman goes make-up free,” she said.

“We’ve had 51 girls upload their photos and we hope to get more people from around the South West involved.”

Youth Advisory Council members will be coming around to Bunbury businesses, schools and organisations on Fresh Face Friday to take pictures of make-up free women.

There are some great prizes up for grabs, including tickets to shows at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, gift vouchers and a $160 beauty pack from Envy.
