'Notorious' roundabout gets green lights
The next phase of Stage 1 of the redevelopment of Bunbury notorious Eelup roundabout has been announced by Transport Minister Troy Buswell, with Fulton Hogan appointed as the contractor to install traffic lights.
After completing the installation of the south-bound sliplane, Fulton Hogan has been awarded a contract to undertake the remaining works at the roundabout.
This will include traffic light installation and construction of a third lane within the roundabout to increase capacity.
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli has welcomed the announcement.
“I am pleased to see another important milestone marked in this project, with the awarding of the contract for the traffic signalisation,” he said.
“This is another big step forward in improving congestion and driver safety at Eelup.”
“I would also ask that drivers continue to be patient during the signalisation works and drive safely according to the road conditions.”
The signalisation of the roundabout will provide for a smoother traffic flow, especially during peak periods and long weekends.
It is also expected to reduce crashes at the site by up to 60 per cent.
