Residents are invited to come to the museum and take a step back in time on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Guests will be guided through the grounds and will be able to see some of the cottage’s displays, including period costumes, old carts and drays and items from a bygone era.

Historical society life member Meryl Gardiner said there would be special activities for children during the day.

Historical society president Jennifer Lee said people who could not make it to the open day were welcome to see the displays during the week from 2pm to 4pm.

The cottage, on Forrest Avenue, is staffed by volunteers from the historical society.

The Bunbury City Council leases the building to the historical society and funds tour guides.

Lt Bunbury’s Australian Sojourn, written by historical society life member and former Bunbury councillor Phyllis Barnes, will be available for sale, among other books, at the open day.

The book outlines the Bunbury pioneer’s time exploring Australia.
