Opening a window on yesteryear

A window into the past and a chance to buy some valuable collectables are on offer this weekend at the Bunbury Antique Collectors Fair.

Now in its 12th year, the annual fair attracts stallholders and traders from across the State to show their wares, and gives people a chance to get their own antiques looked at and valued.

‘‘The hall will be packed to the rafters with antique traders showing their items of interest,’’ Bunbury Collectors Club vice president Yvonne Irwin said.

‘‘We have something special this year, a trader who is bringing a matchbox toy car collection which will be on show to the public.’’

Along with the many pieces of china, coins and military items on show, a top hat worn in the marriage of two West Australians more than 150 years ago will be displayed.

‘‘Stallholders and collectors club members will be dressing up in period costume, which will be great for the kids,’’ Mrs Irwin said.

‘‘We had more than 2000 visitors last year and we are expecting more this year.’’

As well as a chance to see some wonderful items, the public can have free appraisals of their own antiques carried out by professionals at the fair.

The Bunbury Antique Collectors Fair will be open on Saturday and Sunday at the Police and Citizens Youth Club on Parade Road from 9am to 4pm.

Entry is $3 for adults and children are free, with proceeds being donated to the PCYC and local youth sports associations.
