Des Ugle Park will continue to flourish after the South West Development Commission announced further funding for the Withers Park.

Bunbury City Council will receive more than $200,000 to continue developing the park, along with its neighbour, Moriarty Park.

SWDC chief executive officer Don Punch said the initiative would help to continue breathing new life into the Bunbury suburb.

"The upgrades will further the considerable work the commission has already undertaken to upgrade the parks and develop a range of community projects and events," he said.

"We are delighted that the initiatives undertaken so far have not only increased the overall amenity of the suburb, but also promoted community connections."

The funding is on top of the $30,000 provided by SWDC for the second stage of the Withers water-wise kitchen garden and a community art project.

The money will be used for reticulation at Des Ugle Park, while native planting will be carried out as part of the Moriarty Park improvements.

Mr Punch said the parks would provide a focal point for residents and foster community pride.

"The parks provide the sense that the community is going somewhere and it offers a vibrant place," he said.

"There is nothing worse than dead space in the centre of a community."

He said the latest funding was part of a broader strategy for Withers.

SWDC has been supporting the "transformation" of Withers through its Withers Urban Renewal Strategy to make the suburb "an even better place for people to live".
