A week’s break is not expected to halt the momentum of the in-form South West Phoenix when they host UWA-Nedlands at WML Stadium on Saturday.

The last time the two sides met the Phoenix were belted 5-1, but have since climbed to fourth on the ladder with just five games remaining in the season.

The Phoenix have not lost since early June, when Canning City surprised the South West side with a 2-1 victory.

Michael Farmer and Patrick Quinn have both been in excellent goal scoring form and will cause plenty of headaches for the visitors’ defence.

Phoenix assistant coach Tony Novello said the players were feeling good after a week off.

“It is a massive game for us because we need to win if we want promotion,” he said.

“The guys trained three times last week.

“They are prepared to give it their best.

“All we can do to keep in touch with the top is win matches.”

Novello said UWA-Nedlands challenged the Phoenix every time they played.

“It is basically about keeping up the good work we have been doing lately and keep playing our game,” he said.

“They play a good passing game, so we need to stop them from creating opportunities.”
