Plan for multi-storey complex off the table
A plan to turn a block of land along Ocean Drive in Bunbury into a multi-storey residential complex has fallen through.
Bunbury City Council voted to terminate the contract with the purchasers of Lot 66 Ocean Drive, believed to be the Perth-based Home Art Building Group on behalf of Chinese investors, during a meeting on Tuesday.
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said a conditional sale for the land had been agreed to about 12 months ago with the purchasers to pay for the rezoning and a structure plan.
“The date to comply with those conditions lapsed on June 30 (today) and despite a lot of effort from council staff to liaise with the selling agent, a conclusion could not be reached,” he said.
“The land will go back on the market - while we respect the purchaser’s position they haven’t fulfilled their obligation.”
Mr Brennan said he was still excited about the land and believed there was strong interest in developing it.
“It’s disappointing we couldn’t take it to the development stage but there are still opportunities for the future,” he said.
“I’m excited by all of the land around that area and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens at this block of land.”
