Police praise New Year's celebrations
Bunbury farewelled 2015 and welcomed the new year with fun-filled activities – and most people were on their best behaviour.
Police praised revellers who used the city’s pubs and clubs to party during the last few hours of Thursday night.
Bunbury police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Mal Jones told the Bunbury Herald there were no major incidents that came out of the celebrations.
Sen. Sgt Jones said officers were on duty for something like a “busy Friday or Saturday night” and were pleased with the trouble-free festivities.
There were no reports of any major incidents from Bunbury’s emergency services.
Numerous parties were held across the city to celebrate the end of 2015.
The most popular was the family-friendly race meeting at the Bunbury Trotting Club which attracted about 4000 people.
“It was just a beautiful night, I was stoked, ” Bunbury Trotting Club general manager Julie Caldwell said.
A fireworks display went ahead at 11.10pm, which was later than planned because of some concern about the strong winds.
Mrs Caldwell said she waited until the last minute to make the decision to let off the fireworks, and was in constant contact with FESA and pyrotechnics staff.
“Safety was our first priority, ” she said.
On the other side of the city, about 150 people were enjoying rock music from Bunbury band Top Shelf and Polercise WA performers at the Sanctuary Golf Resort.
Another good crowd of about 200 people attended Vat2’s annual New Year’s Eve beach-themed party.
