South West traffic police will turn their focus to school zones over the next two weeks, as part of a Statewide police campaign.

Police promised to have a heavy presence in 40kmh zones around Bunbury from Tuesday afternoon, continuing into next week.

South West traffic police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Craig Clarke said his officers would concentrate on various school zones in Bunbury, Eaton and Australind.

He said other police stations in the region would also be focusing on their own areas.

"The message we want to get out is just to jog people's memory that kids are back at school and get them in that frame of mind," Sen. Sgt Clarke said.

He said both hand-held and Multanova cameras would be used by police, but he would rather not be handing out tickets to drivers.

"If we don't catch anyone speeding, surely that's a better message to send out then statistics of drivers caught," he said.

Dalyellup Boulevard - near Ocean Forest Lutheran and Dal- yellup colleges - is one area police will focus on after being notorious for speeders caught by Multanovas, according to Sen. Sgt Clarke.

He said Washington Avenue near St Joseph's Primary School was usually a good area because of flashing 40kmh signs, but most school zones did not have the signs.
