Rainbow run returns for fun
Clothes, skin and hair will be saturated in different colours when the Rainbow Fun Run returns to Australind this month.
The colourful event is organised by the Leschenault Catholic Primary School P and F committee and raises much-needed money for the group.
Participants will be drenched in hundreds of kilograms of brightly coloured powder when they take to the 5km track on February 28 at the Leschenault Sporting Precinct.
Returning for the second year, organisers have promised a bigger and better event than last year’s when more than 1300 people braved the colour spectacle and raised about $16,500.
Committee member Chloe Meek said the group had doubled the amount of powder this year in anticipation of topping last year’s crowd.
Blue, red, yellow, purple, pink and orange are the colours among the 600kg of powder ready to be used.
Ms Meek said the event was important, not only for the committee but for the community.
“It’s a significant part of our fundraising, but it’s also about having families out and about and doing activities,” she said.
“It’s a really good vibe – you don’t see anyone without a smile on their face on the day.”
The Rainbow Fun Run is more fun than run, with participants able to walk, run or dance the track.
“It’s not timed so there’s no pressure on people,” Ms Meek said.
“And you go through twice, so people will well and truly get covered in powder.”
Ms Meek said the powder washed out of clothes easily, but blondes were recommended to put oil in their hair before the run.
Tickets are available online for the event.
