Rare diamonds the cherry on top

One lucky diner will walk away from the 2013 Chefs’ Long Table Lunch with a lot more than a full stomach and pleased palate.

Nina’s has donated a pair of hand-crafted earrings featuring rare Argyle pink and white diamonds set in 18ct gold with a retail value of $9000 to the event.

The earrings will be won by someone as they indulge in a dessert by chef Allan Sommer.

Mr Sommer will create a refreshing cherry berry bombe dessert for the event, which will take place on February 24, on the Pat Usher Foreshore in Bunbury.

“It will be a nice little exotic sweet specially crafted for the event, in keeping with the beautiful diamonds, ” Mr Sommer said.

“The lead up to the event is three days solid work — the last day you don’t sleep because you’ve got to allow for every contingency.”

The Royal Flying Doctor Service has been named as this year’s major beneficiary of the fundraising event.

Minor beneficiaries include Foodbank South West, Lions Club of Millbridge and Smiths Beach Surf Life Saving Club.

Now in its 10th year, the South Western Times-sponsored charity luncheon has so far raised more than $500,000 for charities and not-for-profit organisations.
