Bunbury is mourning the death of a medical stalwart who died from cancer on Monday.

Dr Mashie Levi, 75, practised medicine in Bunbury since 1967, achieved many outstanding accolades and held senior positions within the medical community during his time as a general practitioner.

Dr Levi was a highly-respected partner with Dr Foster and Associates and before then, he served as a medical officer and was a supporter of the Asthma Foundation.

During his early career, Dr Levi worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and in anaesthetics.

In 2008, he was honoured with an award marking 30 years of service to the rural community.

A hard worker, Dr Levi was never known to complain and just got on with the job, but his career was not his only passion.

Dr Levi married wife Melanie 45 years ago and together they had three children; Meredith, Neil and Jeremy.

Meredith Levi said her father was a loving man had a stand-out sense of humour.

‘‘He was a very intelligent man and one of the things that made him stand out for us was his sense of humour; it was very dry,’’ she said.

‘‘He was a very dedicated and loyal man.’’

Ms Levi said she remembered her father always being involved with the local swimming club and taking on the role of president at one stage.

Dr Levi was also passionate about the South West, classical music and his farm.

He was interested in viticulture and loved the beauty of the South West landscape.

Ms Levi said he had a real place in the community and would be dearly missed.
