Revamped Bunbury hotel mixes heritage, modern feel
The rejuvenated Trafalgars Hotel will reopen today after being closed for three months for major renovations.
The building was constructed in 1857 and has served as a popular meeting place for family and friends over the years.
But owner Lorna Reilly said it needed a revamp.
“It’s a beautiful heritage building, but throughout the years things have been added and tacked on, so we decided to gut it completely,” she said.
“But we wanted to stay as close, as possible to the original design.”
The original walls, fireplace and a few of the old roof shingles, which have been framed, act as a nostalgic reminder of the building’s old days.
But the brand new beer garden, private seating booths and vibrant decor is sure to add another memorable chapter to Trafalgars and to the lives of its loyal customers.
Mrs Reilly described her renewed bar as a family-operated establishment for families.
“My son and I own the bar and we wanted to create a place where everyone could feel comfortable,” she said.
“I’ve always had different aged clientele and I wanted to create a good atmosphere for all of them.
“The finished product has definitely met my expectations.”
Mr Reilly and her son Brett are now in the process of revising the menu and plan to renovate Trafalgars’ upstairs area in the near future.
