Reynolds' Rio hopes get a boost

Bunbury BMX champion Lauren Reynold’s hopes of heading to a second Olympic Games have been given a boost, with the Union Cycliste Internationale announcing Australia will go into the games with the maximum quota of athletes.

The Bunbury BMX champion has been striving for selection at this year’s Games in Rio de Jainero and is a chance of being one of two women selected for the games.

Reynolds and Caroline Buchanan are the hot favourites to be selected for the Games.

BMX high performance coach Wade Bootes said he is happy with the progress of the Australian athletes in contention for selection after Australia were ranked by UCI first in the women's and third in the men's standings.

“Caroline Buchanan has had a very good season, Lauren Reynolds has scored some good points to get our ranking up there in the women’s standings and we’re in a good spot,” he said.

Australia’s BMX representative will be announced following selection meetings in June.
