The Coates Hire Bunbury Motorcycle Club had its first run for the 2014 season on a fast track in front of a big crowd at the Shrubland Park circuit at the weekend.

The Back to the Future-themed event boasted more than 40 vintage motorcycles, including sidecars that had returned to race in Bunbury for a second consecutive year.

Bright sunlight coupled with cooler temperatures made conditions perfect for both riders and loyal fans standing trackside for all of Sunday’s dirt bike action.

Good rain the day before ensured dust was kept to a minimum and had the heavy sand track at its best, allowing riders to produce some quality motocross riding.

The race day started early with the careful examination of all motorcycles and riding gear followed by a riders’ meeting and then practise.

A full program of events with a total of 240 competitors nominating made the opening day exciting and busy.

Stuart Eardley-Wilmot riding a KTM and wearing the number eight plate was the day’s standout, riding consistently fast to win both the 125cc and 250cc junior classes.

Tim Bell was also lightning quick but in full control, taming Bunbury’s notoriously tough track to take out the Pro Open with Reece Colgan second and Michael Kennedy in third.
