Dead trees along the Collie River bank have been removed and lower canopy trees have been pruned along the Eaton Foreshore this week.

Dardanup shire parks and environment supervisor David Mort said the project would enhance the area.

It is part of the Eaton Foreshore’s redevelopment project to encourage greater enjoyment of the natural surroundings.

Weeds have also been removed and rubbish cleared to improve the connection with the river for users of the nearby nature playground.

Mr Mort said environmental investigations had taken place for two weeks prior to the works being undertaken, with staff inspecting the area for habitat hollows or nesting sites.

“These works will be the first step in rejuvenating this area of the foreshore with future plans to plant nutrient stripping sedges indigenous to the area as well as many small water wise shrubs and plants,” Mr Mort said.

A proposed new footpath will also be built to follow the Collie River’s edge.
