Sea Scouts on the sale trail

EMILY BAKERSouth Western Times

Just about everyone knows the scout motto is “be prepared” and the 2nd Bunbury Sea Scouts will be living proof of this on Saturday when they host their second Jumbo Jambo Jumble Sale to raise money to get to the next Australian Jamboree.

The scout’s jumble sale is also a part of the Garage Sale Trail, a nationwide initiative which organises communities to hold sales on the same day, this Saturday.

Assistant scout leader Fiona Hinds said the scouts hoped to better last year’s successful sale.

“Even though the next Australian Jamboree isn’t until 2016, we are getting a headstart with fundraising this time,” she said.

Many community groups are preparing to take part in Saturday’s Garage Sale Trail.

Ms Hinds urged people to get involved to raise money, snap up a bargain and meet the neighbours.

“Recycling and sustainability are very much part of the ethos of scouts, so a jumble sale ticks all the boxes as a fundraiser,” she said.

The Scouts’ Jumbo Jambo Jumble Sale — featuring everything from toys, clothes, books and homemade cakes — will be held at the Sea Scout Hall in Queens Gardens, East Bunbury from 9am to 4pm.
