The South West was heavily represented at this year’s Australian Seniors Cricket Championships, with 11 players competing in the tournament in Perth.

Greg Willey, Wayne Warrick, Neville Eastman, Brian Eastcott, Darrell Ramponi, David O’Shaunessy, Alan Osborne, Tony Ferguson, Neil Hopkins, Ray Gasmire and John Bird were all selected in their respective teams to compete in this week’s competition.

This was the first time WA has hosted the championships, with 42 teams across Australia competing.

The host State had three teams in the over 60 division and one in the over 70s.

National president Ian Fraser said it was the biggest carnival they had held in its 11 years.

“It will be close to one of the biggest interstate cricket competitions ever in Australia,” he said.

“When we started we just had four teams.

“The last three to four years it really has exploded. It comes from word of mouth.”

Fraser said a team of selectors would pick an Australian team on Thursday night to play England for the “Grey Ashes”.

The Australian team will play England in three one-day internationals at the end of November in Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide.
