Seniors to boost town population
The Meadowbrooke Lifestyle Village in Boyanup is another step closer to completing the ground work at the site.
The village will feature 181 homes, a bowling green, indoor pool, function room and caravan storage for over 55s.
On Thursday the sewage pump station was brought down from Perth and installed using a 200 tonne crane and dropped into a 5m hole.
Meadowbrooke chairman Kevin McDonald said they had been working on the project since 2008, so seeing it start to take shape was exciting. He said by mid September stage 1A would be competed and seven units were already under offer.
“The demand for this sort of lock up and leave lifestyle living has increased because the baby boomer generation are looking for an affordable option like the resort style living, close to amenities,” he said.
“The gated community will increase the population of the town by 46 per cent and I feel we have already been accepted into the community.
“The furniture from the accommodation that was previously on site we donated to Roelands Village, who we have been working closely with to develop a nature trail walk with signage about the plants and history of the land.”
Capel shire president Murray Scott said the development was promising for Boyanup’s economic growth.
“It is only good, I honestly don’t think it will go bad and it would be good to see a supermarket or small corner store go in town,” he said.
