Sharing the beard love

South Western Times

For an internationally renowned band, The Beards care very little about their music, and claim to care more about their flowing facial hair and about spreading their love of beards.

The foursome from Adelaide sing only about beards, and this month released their fourth album, The Beard Album.

With more than 50 beard related songs under the band’s belt, The Beards’ drummer John Beardman Jr said coming up with songs was still easy for them.

“It just gets easier, ” he said.

“The Beards are inspired every time they look in the mirror.

“We’ve just released our fourth album that is entirely related to beards and the album itself is a beard, ” he said.

“The music isn’t very important to us, it’s about getting the message across and the easiest way for us to spread our propaganda is through music.”

Anyone interested in going to The Beards’ Prince of Wales Hotel show next Saturday should think carefully about their attire.

Although Beardman said the band cared little about typical dress standards, beards were a must, and moustaches would not be tolerated at the performance.

“If people want to make some powerful enemies, then they should come along to our show with a moustache, ” he said.

“We intend to find the best beard in Bunbury and intend to see what kind of beard Bunbury has to offer.”

For lovers of The Beards who claim they cannot grow facial hair, Beardman’s response is “try harder”— or “stick the album cover to your face with something permanent”.

“We’ve heard every excuse in the book, but growing a beard is the easiest thing in the world.

“If my grandmother could grow one, you can grow one.”

The facial hair fanatic described himself as “practically local” to Bunbury, having been to Bunbury a number of times since they released their first album in 2007.

“I believe I was there last year, ” he said.

“Our beards will be longer now than last time we were in Bunbury.”

The Beards play at the Prince of Wales Hotel on May 31.

Tickets can be bought from The Beards’ website.
