Shire invites families to Eaton foreshore to play
Children will be swinging and climbing at the new nature-based playground along the Eaton Foreshore when it opens tomorrow.
The playground is part of the Dardanup Shire Council’s redevelopment of the foreshore.
It awarded the tender to Perth-based Environmental Industries for about $195,000 in April.
Natural materials have been used to create a point of difference for the slides and various equipment in the playground.
Dardanup shire corporate and community services director Stuart Eaton said the council had received an unprecedented level of interest from the public about the project.
“The level of interest on social media about the playground has been amazing,” he said.
“I think this is because it’s an innovative type of playground and that’s what we’ve aimed for.
“The idea of the playground was to activate the area as a recreational space and that’s what we are looking at with the expansion of the boat ramp and a cafe nearby.”
Mr Eaton said he credited council staff for the success of the project and its ability to attract attention.
“The staff have developed the idea and they are making the space a place that people want to visit,” he said.
The council committed $128,000 in its 2016-17 budget for stage two of the redevelopment of the foreshore, which includes the redevelopment of the Eaton boat ramp and carpark area.
Dardanup shire president Mick Bennett said the third stage of the project was still being worked out.
