Skaters in medal haul at nationals
Jaiden Lanigan and Reece Gunnell of the Bunbury Speed Skating Club both donned the black and gold of WA last month at the 2012 National In-line Speed Skating Championships in Adelaide.
The boys, both 15, came home with medals from the championships that featured road and track races, including time trials, a variety of sprint, long distance races and even a 42km marathon.
Jaiden returned as the national under 17 champion formany events and both emerging stars won gold medals for the junior and senior marathon respectively.
The boys were selected to represent Australia in the Oceania team in New Zealand in April. Reece also went for selection for the world team that will compete in Italy in September of this year and was successful in receiving a highly sought after place.
Jaiden and Reece train heavily throughout the week in Bunbury and Perth, including several off skate sessions that include a specialised gym program, cycling and running.
Through commitment, dedication, skill and adrenaline the two teenagers have much to look forward to.
The Bunbury Speed Skating Club holds sessions every Thursday night at The Rink in Halifax from 5.30pm-6.30pm for anyone interested to learn to speed skate for fitness, fun, recreation or competition.
The program runs over a 10-week term and the first three sessions are free with hire skates included. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
