Bunbury City Council’s SkyFest Australia Day celebrations will return this year, with organisers promising a host of interactive and family-friendly activities at the event.

The annual January 26 festivities will boast many new and engaging activities including the SciTech Roadshow, a double-decker game bus, an Australian native animal display and a “colour combat” area.

Bunbury City Council events officer Hayley Mazzucchelli said she hoped the entertainment helped make the Australia Day celebrations an enjoyable experience for everyone who attended.

“We are really excited about it, ” she said.

“We have focused on fresh and new elements this year.

“It is very family-friendly and there is something for everyone to enjoy on the day.”

Starting at 6.30am with the annual Silver Chain breakfast, this year’s festivities will also welcome new citizens to the region at the Australian Day Citizen Ceremony.

The event is set to include more than 30 food stalls, live performances from an array of South West musicians and a set from New South Wales alternative rockers Winterbourne.

Ms Mazzucchelli said in addition to the wide range of entertainment, the 2016 SkyFest would be highlighted by the spectacular fireworks display.

“We know the celebrations are going to be bigger and better this year, ” she said.

“It’s a day for everybody in the Bunbury and the South West region.”

Those at the Australia Day celebrations will get the chance to give to victims of the South West bushfires.
