The Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers booked their spot in the next round of the play-offs after defeating Perth by 25 points in game two of their WSBL quarter final series on Friday night.

The 73-48 victory at the Eaton Recreation Centre means the Slammers, who also defeated the Redbacks in game one the previous weekend, claimed the best-of-three series 2-0.

They will play reigning champions Willetton in a semi-final series beginning this weekend.

Despite a slow start to the contest, the Slammers got better as the game went on. They led 13-10 at quarter time and 34-24 at the long break on their way to the convincing triumph.

There was a lengthy delay in the opening term when Slammers’ import Kim Sitzmann took a knock to the side of her head and had to be helped from the court.

She returned to lead the game in both points and rebounds. The star recruit finished the night with 18 points, including four triples, and 12 boards.

Bianca Donovan, who started the game on the bench, also had an enormous impact, scoring 18 points in her 20 minutes on the court.

After dropping game one of their quarter final series against Lakeside, Willetton were forced to fight to keep their title defence alive.

The Tigers’ home court advantage in games two and three was telling however – they squared the series with a 74-59 triumph on Friday night before confirming their place in the semis with a 62-54 victory on Saturday evening.

In other games, minor premiers Wanneroo took a clean sweep of their quarter final series against East Perth who are now out of the competition. The Wolves will meet Rockingham, who came from a game down to beat Kalamunda 2-1 in their quarter final series, in the semi-finals.
