A Bunbury business has donated kilos of food in a bid to tackle poverty, according to organisers of a food drive.

Dale Alcock Homes South West donated more than 200kg of edible goods to Foodbank Bunbury after staff took part in a competitive food drive.

Each department at the business was asked to collect as much food as possible, with the ‘sales/resolve’ team collecting the winning amount of 86kg.

Special projects manager Jan Ferraz said staff at Dale Alcock Homes were generous and caring and always willing to help the community.

“The statistics of homeless people and people on the poverty line are alarming,” Ms Ferraz said.

“We have a very active Dales-in-the-community work group, which looks at ways to help people in the community and this was a real need.”

The idea for the food drive came after the business raised more than $650 for the same organisation to help buy a new freezer.

“We would love to see others help Foodbank to get its new freezer and also top up their winter food supplies,” Ms Ferraz said.

Foodbank Bunbury administration assistant Leonie Jane said the organisation was grateful for the business’ continued support.

“This is not the first time Dales have made donations to Foodbank and we are very happy and extremely grateful for their generosity,” she said.

“Receiving donations like this means Foodbank can extend a helping hand further into the community.”
