Sporty school scores again
Adam Road Primary School is set to receive a second delivery of shiny new sporting equipment.
Students, teachers and parents have collected Coles Sports for Schools vouchers with their shopping and will trade them with the supermarket giant for new equipment.
Last year the vouchers won them soccer and cross country uniforms, tennis racquets and fold up soccer goals.
Adam Road Primary School sports teacher Kylie Sheedy said the program provided the school with equipment they wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise.
‘‘It gives us a greater variety whereas before you would just spend money on essentials and miss out on those luxury pieces of equipment,’’ she said.
‘‘This year we’re hoping to get soccer balls, a set of football jumpers for the girls, some more pop-up goals and new netball rings.
‘‘Kids certainly like it when you have new equipment to play with,’’ she said.
Ms Sheedy said the extra equipment allowed for more participation, which was important especially for younger students.
‘‘It’s about getting in there, getting involved and having a go,’’ she said.
Student Ella Smith, 12, collected more than 100 vouchers this year and said the equipment encouraged students to have fun.
‘‘We did have sport equipment before but we have lots more now,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s good to be healthy and active.’’
Fellow student Hailey Burrows, 11, plays netball and basketball outside of school to keep fit.
‘‘You don’t want to get obese, you want to maintain your fitness,’’ she said.
