Sprintcar feature and regional drivers to hit Bunbury
If the opening two rounds of the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series are an accurate form guide, spectators are in for a real treat at the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night.
Last weekend’s sprintcar feature resulted in Daniel Harding coming from the clouds to edge out Callum Williamson by 0.118 of a second in one of the most remarkable ends to a race you will ever see.
Seemingly unable to make up the ground needed, Harding threw caution to the wind on the final turn and slid meticulously into the lead just metres from the finish line.
Williamson, who hails from Geraldton, has been on the podium over the past fortnight and will be keen to get amongst the chequered flag when he lands in the “Bunbury Bullring”.
Although the Bunbury Auto One Sprintcar Grand Slam may take top billing on Saturday night, plenty of spectators will be keen to follow the progress of South West drivers across the Late Model, Wingless Sprints and Street Stocks divisions.
A man set to challenge the top end of the Late Model feature race will be Brad Blake, who will be keen to build on from his third-placed finish last weekend.
“We are ticking over with the points so I am stoked with how we are going,” he said post-race.
“There was no grip out there at all, so we probably chose the wrong tyre combination, but third is good.
“My brother-in-law (Warren Oldfield) won and Michael Holmes had a good run in second, so we are all happy.”
