State govt 'city-centric': MLC

South Western Times

South West MLC Adele Farina has slammed the State Government for stalling on a decision on Bunbury's multi-million-dollar Waterfront project.

Ms Farina said a year after the proposed planning amendments to the Greater Bunbury Regional Scheme were released for public comment there was still no word from the Government on the development.

She said it was not fair that the Government this week announced its $270 million commitment for the Perth waterfront project in the 2011-12 State Budget and set a timeline for earthworks to start in 2012.

``The city-centric Barnett government has fast-tracked this Perth project while Bunbury continues to wait to learn about the fate of its waterfront development,'' she said.

In May 2009 a taskforce, including Bunbury MLA John Castrilli and Mayor David Smith, was appointed to resolve planning issues relating to the Bunbury waterfront development.

According to LandCorp, which has a delegate on the taskforce, the Bunbury Waterfront project has the potential to attract $3 billion in investment over the next 30 years and generate up to

3000 jobs during the construction phase and 7400 jobs in the longer term.
